Yangon |
In
Yangon the most famous of all not only in
Myanmar but all over the world is the Shwedagon
pagoda on the Theinguttara hill. It was merely
27 feet high originally. Binnya-U repaired the
shwedagon pagoda, raising its height to 66 feet
in 1362 A.D.

Mandalay |
King
Mindon (1853 – 1873) told the chief commissioner
of British Myanmar that “Myosade” (It means the
Myanmar’s name for a victim buried alive under
the foundation of a great building in order to
provide a guardian spirit.) custom had not been
followed at the foundation of Mandalay in 1875

Bagan |
In
1044 AD Anawrahta became the king of Bagan
Kingdom. As he wished Bagan to be a strong
capital of the whole country, he gathered his
best men. He built the Bawrithat pagoda on the
eastern hill and founded the Shwezigon pagoda in
Bagan.

Bago |
Bago
is one of the most famous ancient sites in
Myanmar. According to the Shwemawdaw history,
king Thamala is also said to be a founder of
Bago (Hanthawaddy) in 825 A.D. King Razadarit
succeeded in razing Bago in 1385. And he
extended his territories around the fields from
Bago.

Kyaikhtiyo |
The
Kyaikhtiyo pagoda stands on a huge boulder,
which itself rests on a projecting rock,
separated from the rest of the hill by a chasm,
fathomless to the eyes, and reaching, so say the
villagers for below the depth of the hill.

Monywa |
King
Sawlu (1077 – 1084) built two pagodas called
Shwesawlu, one of them at Myogyi in Monywa
district. Shwedang – U pagoda was built in
Monywa by king Alaungsithu. Narapatisithu built
Zedihla pagoda in Monywa.

Mrauk U |
King
Narameikhla (1404- 1434 A.D) founded Mrauk Oo in
1433 and it remained the capital for the next
four centuries. Minbin (1535 – 1553 A.D)
strengthened the massive stone walls of Mrauk Oo
and dug a deep moat for the tidal water.

Ava |
| Ava was founded by the
descendant of Thihathu, one of Shan brothers,
Thadominbya in 1364. Ngayamankan also stockaded
himself in that place where Ava was subsequently
built.

Taunggoo |
| In 1280 Taunggoo was founded by
the two brothers. Thinkaba (1347 – 1358) build a
palace near Gyobinseik village. Pyanchi (1368 –
1377) planted groves of toddy palms and built
many pagodas and monasteries. King Minkyinyo
(1486 – 1531) founded the capital called
‘Katumati’ the present Taunggoo.

Located
in Shan State, Inle Lake is the second largest
lake in Myanmar. It exists over 1328 meters
above sea level. Inle is not only a huge lake
but the native land of the lake dwellers, the
