The inhabitants are mostly Kayah who are also known as Karenni. Myanmar’s largest hydropower plant is located 20 km east of Loikaw at Lawpita Falls and named as Lawpita Hydropower Plant. It is the main electric power source of Myanmar. Loikaw is about 70 miles south of Kalaw and about 5 hours drive from Kalaw. Taungwe Taung Zedi is the most venerated pagoda in Kayah State. Taungwe means "separate hills" in Myanmar. The Keinnery Bird is the symbol of the Kayah State.

Loikaw has an airport. Myanmar airway flies Yangon - Loikaw – Yangon. As far as I know, there are flights 2 or 3 times per week. If there is flight (Loikaw to Yangon), it is better to take flight from Loikaw instead of long drive back to Heho.
