Taunggyi

taunggyiTaunggyi (meaning a huge mountain), lies 1,435 meters above sea-level is situated at the southern Shan State and also the capital of the Shan States with moderate climate. It is 730 km north east from Yangon. It is situated on a high plateau surrounded by high mountains. The road to Taunggyi is full of bends and zigzags and seen from above resembles serpentine. There are pines, cherry andeucalyptus trees growing all over the town and the whole area is green and pleasant.

Pindaya and its Natural Caves

Pindaya, 1183 m. above the sea level, is in Shan State, 45 km north of Kalaw. It is situated at the foot of western ridge of Shan mountains.

The road to Pindaya is very scenic, one of the loveliest in Shan state, passing through enchanting villages of Shan, Pa-O, and Danu hill tribe. One can also see the fields of potatoes, cabbages, onions, sunflowers, paddy and jute plantations, likely the beds lying on the ground, and also the plantation of tangerine orange groves, avocado and other vegetables and fruits in this fertile area. It is another picturesque town in Shan State; famous for its natural lime stone cave believed to be more than 200 million years old. This cave have been places of worship and veneration with 8094 Buddha images made from various materials like teak wood, marble, alabaster, brick, cement and lacquer, all enshrined in the nook and corners of the winding cavern. Research exposed the earliest images in the cave are dated from AD 1773. The numerous stalactites and stalagmites in this cave form fanciful shapes

Nyaung Shwe

nyaungshweNyaung Shwe is a small town situated a few kilometers north of Inle Lake. It is the main gateway to visit Inle Lake as the main jetty locates there. The town can be reached by flight to Heho and car and bus from Mandalay. The old Shan town has its own attraction for visitors as Haw – the palace of Shan chieftain - nowadays converted to culture museum and Shweyanpyay monastery.

Kalaw

kalawKalaw, an old British hill resort stands at the altitude of 1,315 meters, is also known as Pine Land because of its abundant in pine trees. The town is surrounded by misty but beautiful mountain ranges where Palaung and other hill tribes reside.

Kakku

kakkuKakku is the compound of closely packed clusters of around 2,000 ancient pagodas dating back to many centuries ago at the Pa-O tribe area of Inle Lake region. The sculptures and figures there were believed to be from 17th and 18th centuries but the real history of the pagoda compound is still not known. Historians and researchers estimated that it was built around 400 years ago but no evidence to support that estimation is found until so far.
