Myanmar Steam Locomotives
“ The Feeling Nostalgia of the Steam Locomotives in Myanmar
”
The
power of a steam locomotive derives from boiler. They are
required in terms of steam pressure and temperature, as well
as the pressure of exhaust. After each 200 to 300 kilometers
travel, the steam locomotive must take on fuel and water. A
locomotive usually requires a crew of three operators,
including driver, an assistant driver and furnace operator
and every crew works on a shift. Train drivers are once
known as chiefs and furnace operators are known as
followers.
In Myanmar, steam locomotives have been used for over a
century ever since the first railways line in Myanmar from
Rangoon (Yangon) to Prome (Pyay) had been built. Although
they were replaced by the advance diesel locomotive and
others now, they are being impressed to the travelers in the
memories of riders. Some steam locomotives remain more
nostalgic than ever before.
Whenever
stopping, steam locomotives are not noisy as diesel powered
locomotives. They are as quite as a docile baby. The steam
locos are waiting for World’s Associations of Steam
Locomotives Lovers. They are already to be used to travel
for visitors. We always offer the steam locomotive
enthusiasts from around the world. Everybody who rides the
steam locomotives must be pleased to feel the touch of the
awesome power, soul-stirring, whistle and the rhythmic
chunk-chack, chunk-chack, chunk-chack.
These steam locomotives used for travelers, especially
tourists to visit all around the country by rail, are warmly
waiting for whoever loves the steamers. During the
Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, the steam
locomotive became a worldwide symbol of power. After 1825,
British inventor George Stephenson conceived the first steam
locomotive. In Myanmar, there would be an opportunity to
explore and have the experience yourself.
The
railways of Myanmar remain during the WW II after 1940s. The
Japanese occupied in 1942 and the finally recapture of the
country by the Allies in 1944-45 so that resulted many
damage to the trucks and locomotives as well as the railways
lines throughout the country. In the period 1944-46 the
allied forces brought in additional stock. After the WWII,
large orders were placed with British manufacturers, those
types being in fact standard pre-war designs. From 1957 to
the present day, only diesel locomotives were ordered.
Therefore, steam locomotives are getting extinct in the
world today. But in Myanmar, more than 20 steam locos are in
service for mankind everyday. This is an opportunity to see
them in their action for international steam enthusiasts. It
is believed that this opportunity will not last forever.
Steam Locos (YB/YC/YD) are converted to oil firing system
started around 1962.
